The hash symbol # is now known by social media users as a “hashtag”. Posts that have the same keywords prefixed with the # symbol are grouped together for search engine to tag on. Hashtag is now a ubiquitous part of Internet culture.

A hashtag is a label for content. Hashtags make it easy to quickly find messages about a topic that interests the particular person.
Using a hashtag in a post helps have the message categorized and make it possible for others to find your post from search engine.
Should you include the hashtag #digitalmarketing in your post, then your post can have higher tendency to be appeared in the search result of the people who key in the word or phrase of #digitalmarketing in their searching.
How to Hashtag
- No Space Allowed
A hashtag can be a single word, an abbreviation, an invented combination of letters and numbers, or a phrase. If it is a phrase, there can be no spaces between words. All letters and numbers must run together without spaces in a hashtag. You can’t have punctuation or symbols in your hashtag (other than the # symbol at the beginning). Numbers are OK, but you must also have at least one letter with the numbers — hashtags cannot consist entirely of numbers.

To create one, start with a hashtag symbol # and follow it directly with letters and sometimes numbers.
Where to Hashtag
Hashtag can be used at the start for emphasis, or at the end for context, or in the middle of your post to highlight a keyword.
